PHOENIX PLACE 1ST, PLAYOFFS SET; CHADWIN WINS 400TH

With a 93 - 57 win over host Westtown on Thursday, February 13th Abington knocked Westtown and Moorestown out of the playoffs, locked Germantown into 4th place and gave veteran coach Steve Chadwin his 400th career win all in one afternoon.  Details of the game will appear in the next newsletter.  Pairings for the 4:00 p.m. semifinals on February 18th are:  GFS (4) at FCS (1) and AFS (3) at George (2).

In a previously unreported game from Friday, January 24th, visiting Moorestown pulled away from a 14-14 first-quarter deadlock and topped Friends Select 56-42.   Jeff Wilson paced the Foxes with 27 points, while Ryan McWilliams added 13.  Muhammad Carr led the Falcons with 25 points, while John Noonan contributed 12.

       On Friday, January 31st host George School raced out to a 28-6 first quarter advantage on the way to an 85-36 win over Select.  Nana Amponsah with 17 and Niall Mander with 13 led 11 Cougar scorers.  Noonan paced the Falcons with 25.  Also on the 31st, host Abington parlayed a 37-23 halftime lead into an 88-62 win over Moorestown.  Will Gause had 20 to pace the 'roos, while Hasani Franke added 19 and John Owens 16.  McWilliams and Matt Spuler each had 14 and Wilson added 10 for Moorestown.

       On Saturday, February 1st visiting Friends' Central put on a first half offensive and defensive clinic at Germantown Friends on the way to a 71-46 triumph.  Mustafa Shakur led the Phoenix with 18 points.  London Houston added 15 and William Phillips had 11 for the winners.  Noel Wilmore had 20 for the Tigers.

       On Tuesday, February 4th host Germantown pulled away to a 48-30 lead after three quarters on the way to a 64-55 win over ANC.  Wilmore led the Tigers with 31 points (10-12 from the line), including 15 in the second period.  Joradan Tucker added 12 for the hosts.  Blake Synnestvedt and Ethan Daum each had 12 for the Lions.

       On Friday, February 7th, host Germantown topped Friends Select 72-35 after building a 44-10 halftime lead.  Wilmore led the way with 15, while seniors Justin Goldman and Sam Kolbert-Hyle added 12 and 10 respectively.  Carr and Noonan each had 9 for the Falcons.

      On Saturday, February 8th visiting Moorestown topped ANC 53-47 in a game postponed from the night before. Wilson led the winners with 20 points (4 threes).  Daum paced the Lions with 15 points (all on threes), while Ben Mansbach and Cameron Smith each added 10 to the cause. The other game scheduled for the 7th (Westtown vs. Abington) will be played on Feb 13th.

      On Tuesday, February 11th Abington bested ANC 70-50, cruising after a 44-20 halftime advantage.  Gause and Rob Fusaro each had 14 for the roos who also got 12 from Dan Lepone and 11 from John Owens. Synnestvedt led the Lions with 15 and Mansbach added 11.  Also on the 11th, Friends' Central expanded on a 30-17 halftime lead to beat Friends Select 77-34.  Shakur had 15 and Houston and Channon Easley each had 10 for the Phoenix.  Noonan took game honors with 18 for the Falcons.  The final game on the 11th saw Moorestown keep its playoff hopes alive with a 74-52 win over Westtown.  Spuler had 24, Travis Brinster 21 and Wilson 13 for the Foxes.  Andrew McClellan led Westtown with 16.

PHOENIX, TIGERS, COUGARS AND LIONS OPEN WITH WINS

 

       Opening night, Friday, January 10th, saw three hosts and one visiting team start the league season with victories.  ANC won each quarter at Friends Select and pulled away from a 27-17 halftime lead to down the host Falcons 70-47.  Johan Steiner led 4 Lions in double figures with 20 points (17-21 from the free throw line).  Ethan Daum added 16, Ben Mansbach 14 and Cameron Smith 13 for the winners.  Muhammad Carr led the Falcons with 20, while John Noonan added 17.  Host George School jumped out to a 37-18 halftime lead and coasted to a 67-40 win over Westtown.  Jeff Stewart led the Cougars with 19 points, while Rashid Santiago added 17 and Mike Bernardini had 13.  Andrew McClellan had a game-high 25 (5 three-pointers) for the visitors.  In a very close game, host Friends Central outscored Abington 21-16 in the 4th quarter to bring home a 64-59 victory.  The Phoenix led by 4 after the first quarter, trailed by 2 at the half and were even after three, setting the stage for the final stanza.  The hosts placed four players in double figures, led by Mustafa Shakur with 17, Channon Easely and London Houston each with 16 and Chris McCann with 12.  The 'roos also had four double-digit scorers. Will Gause topped the visitors with 14, while Rob Fusaro had 13 and Dan Lepone and John Owens 11 each.  The final game of the night saw host Germantown open a 25-13 halftime lead and then repulse numerous Moorestown runs to end up with a 61-51 win.  The Tigers were led by Noel Wilmore with 23, while Jason Tucker added 13 and his brother Jordan had 10.  Ryan McWilliams led the Foxes with 14 and Jeff Wilson added 11.
